Why Hemp?

Industrial hemp/ cannabis sativa has been an important element in cultures around the world since the Bronze Age (3,000-2,500 B.C.); first noted in central Asia. It has been widely used across Eurasia for over 4,000 years. Nearly every part of the hemp plant can be used by industry today: the nutritious grain-like seed, the strong, outer bast fibers and the woody inner core known as hurd or shiv. The leaves fall to the ground leaving rich mulch after harvest, Hemp is a bast fiber (bamboo, ramie & flax are also bast) which yields 4 times more fiber per acre than trees. On the same amount of land, hemp produces 250% more fiber than cotton and 600% more fiber than flax (linen). Hemp can grow 6'-16' tall in 110 days. The only bast fiber which grows faster is bamboo. The question really is: Why haven't we been using hemp all along?!
